Different Methods of Dreaming
Goal Setting For Dreamers Series 2 of 4
When we talk about “dreaming,” we’re not talking about the kind of dreams you have while you sleep. Instead, we’re diving into the process of creating a powerful vision for your future. It’s about intentionally imagining the life you want by tapping into your authentic desires.
But here's the thing: many of us struggle to dream clearly. We get stuck in self-doubt, fear, or a sense of overwhelm. Maybe you’ve tried to visualize your future but couldn’t see beyond your current circumstances. Or perhaps you've thought about your goals but felt disconnected from what you truly want.
If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. These struggles are common, especially when you don’t have the right method or structure to guide you. That’s why in today’s post, as part of the Goal Setting For Dreamers Series, we’ll explore different methods of dreaming—each offering its own powerful way of tapping into your future. Whether it's visualization, scripting, dreamboarding, or dream-building, I’ll share how each of these methods works, the common pitfalls to avoid, and how to make them work for you.

Methods of Dreaming
Visualization The Power of Imagination
Visualization is one of the most widely used and powerful dreaming techniques. It involves vividly imagining your desired future—seeing yourself in a place where your dreams are already a reality. You picture everything: where you are, who’s with you, and how you feel.
The Challenge:
One of the biggest challenges with visualization is that many people struggle with it for various reasons. Some feel like they can't visualize because they have a hard time "seeing" anything when they close their eyes. Others find it feels superficial or just like daydreaming, with no real connection to their goals. For many, focusing during a visualization practice is difficult, leading to frustration and self-criticism, causing them to give up. And then, there are those who feel disconnected from the future and can’t even picture where they want to go.
The Solution:
Marisa Peer, a renowned therapist and coach, teaches that effective visualization is about tapping into the emotions and feelings associated with your dream. It's not about forcing yourself to "see" a picture in your mind—what matters is feeling the emotions as if your dreams are already happening. According to Marisa, visualization is most powerful when you focus on embodying the emotions of success, pride, and joy, allowing those feelings to permeate your entire being.
In her work, Marisa emphasizes that it's not just about visualizing the future; it's about living the experience now. When you deeply connect to the emotions of already having achieved your goal, you're aligning your subconscious mind with that reality. This makes it easier to create the change and results you desire.
Professional athletes use this technique consistently to improve their performance. I know this firsthand, having grown up as a competitive surfer. My surf coach taught me to consistently visualize myself walking the nose or executing a smooth bottom turn. By visualizing these movements, I was able to eventually perform them in real life, which was incredible. I also experienced a powerful moment of hypnosis before a contest, and the very next day, I won the surf competition! Visualization, paired with a deep sense of belief and focus, played a huge role in my success.
In my coaching, I guide you through exercises that use NLP techniques to help you activate all of your senses—allowing you to feel your dreams as though they’re already real. The more you practice, the more natural it becomes to embody and stay aligned with your vision.
2. Scripting: Writing Your Future into Reality
Scripting is a powerful manifestation technique where you write about your desired future as though it’s happening right now. You describe in detail the life you want to create in the present tense, fully immersing yourself in the emotions and experiences you want to attract. It’s about bringing your dreams to life on paper and connecting with the vision of your future self in a very tangible, real way.
The Challenge:
Scripting can be challenging, especially if you don’t feel connected to the idea of living your dream in the present moment or you don’t even know what to write! It might feel forced, particularly if you’re struggling with limiting beliefs or doubts about whether your dream is even possible. There’s a risk of scripting from a place of “wishful thinking” rather than a place of certainty and knowing that it will happen, which can make the process feel hollow or disconnected.
The Solution:
To get the most out of scripting, Jack Canfield, author of The Success Principles, advises focusing on the feelings that your dream will bring. He encourages scripting from a place of gratitude and excitement, even if the dream feels distant. It’s about aligning your current state with the future reality you want to create.
To enhance the scripting process and make it even more powerful, I use a method that’s deeply connected to your inner wisdom. In my coaching, I help my clients peel back the layers to uncover their authentic desires through structured introspective work. This process taps into your inner guidance and wisdom, providing clarity and depth to your vision. Rather than just writing a general “wish list,” we dive deep into what truly matters to you and what your soul desires, helping you to script with genuine passion and purpose.
How is this approach different from a typical scripting or vision board exercise?
While many may start by selecting images or writing from a surface level, I guide my clients to first connect deeply with their core values. We begin inward, defining what truly matters in the essential areas of your life. By tapping into that inner wisdom, you create a roadmap that feels deeply aligned with your authentic self. Once that inner clarity is achieved, the images and words that resonate with you naturally fall into place.
The end result is a Dreamboard and script that truly reflects your deepest desires, and from there, we craft actionable steps to help you stay aligned with your vision every day. This structured approach ensures that your scripting doesn’t feel like an abstract wish, but rather a roadmap that moves you forward with intention.
This method, influenced by feng shui principles, ensures that your vision is holistic and harmonious across nine essential areas of your life. I integrate NLP techniques, guided visualization, and intentional journaling to help you accelerate the manifestation of a more fulfilling, aligned future. By merging these tools with scripting, you create a powerful cycle of manifestation, bringing your dream life closer to reality with every written word.
3. Dreamboarding: A Visual Roadmap for Your Life
Dreamboarding, also known as vision boarding, is one of the most creative and fun ways to dream. It involves collecting images, words, and symbols that represent your desires and arranging them on a vision board. These visual reminders serve as a roadmap to guide you when setting goals and keep you focused on your dreams. Vision boards became widely popular through The Secret, a book and film that introduced the Law of Attraction to a global audience. The Secret emphasizes that by focusing on positive thoughts and visualizing your desires, you can attract those desires into your life. It’s a concept that many have embraced, and for good reason—visualizing our future helps bring clarity and intention to our goals.
The Challenge:
The challenge with Dreamboarding is that it can sometimes feel too abstract or disconnected from real action. You might create a beautiful board, but without clear goals or consistent actions, it can remain a “vision” that you never really act on. An issue I see often is that people may look outwardly for inspiration—allowing their dreams to be influenced by what they see in magazines, social media, or other people's lives. This can lead to a vision that’s not aligned with their authentic desires, but instead reflects outside influences, leading to disappointment. Furthermore, most people hyper focus on one or a few areas of their life, which can create a blind spot for other important areas, leaving certain aspects of your life neglected. Some of those common neglected areas include relationships, career and health.
The Solution:
To make Dreamboarding more effective and fulfilling, it's essential to first connect deeply with your inner wisdom. This inward focus ensures your vision comes from a place of authenticity rather than external influences. In my method, I guide you through a process of introspection to uncover your true desires, rather than simply selecting images that look appealing. We start by defining your core values and the vision for each essential area of your life. This ensures a well-rounded Dreamboard that truly represents the fullness of who you want to become and what you genuinely want.
When creating your Dreamboard, make sure the images resonate with your heart and reflect your most authentic desires. Once your Dreamboard is complete, we move to the next step: aligning it with actionable steps. You’ll identify key goals that reflect the vision on your board, helping you move forward with purpose.
Dreamboarding can serve as a powerful, personal visual reminder of what’s possible, but it’s the energy and intentional action you put behind it that propels you toward your vision. By using your Dreamboard as a tool to stay connected to your dreams, it will motivate you daily and inspire you to take consistent action.
For me personally, Dreamboarding was the turning point that changed my life. It helped me break free from toxic relationship patterns and the depression I was struggling with. By putting my dreams and desires in front of me—by making them visible—I was influenced to take intentional steps toward a future I was proud of. This practice helped me manifest the love, fulfillment, and happiness I now experience, and it continues to guide me. Dreamboarding was my ticket to transformation, and I still use it today to stay aligned with the life I’m creating.
4. Dream-Building: A Step-by-Step Process of Creation
Dream-Building is about taking your large, seemingly unattainable dreams and breaking them down into smaller, actionable steps. These actionable steps are designed to give your subconscious mind a taste of the dream. For example, I was looking for a new car, and I was going to dealerships and paying attention to friends' cars to get a feel of what I liked. I had originally wanted a Mini Cooper. I thought they were so cute and stylish! When I got into my friend's Mini Cooper I saw that there wasn’t the space or versatility that I wanted in a car. After talking with my husband about the things I wanted, we went to check out a Scion xB. I sat in it, test drove it, and saw all the cool features. That was all my subconscious needed to jumpstart the mechanisms of getting the car. Soon un foreseen resources and support began aligning for me, and I was driving that car off the lot with ease. It’s about creating a clear roadmap to make your dreams tangible and achievable through consistent action.
The Challenge:
The biggest challenge with dream-building is feeling overwhelmed by the sheer size of your dream. When your goal seems far away, it can be difficult to know where to start or how to avoid getting lost in the planning phase and paralyzed from taking real action.
The Solution:
In his program Your Wish Is Your Command, Kevin Trudeau emphasizes the importance of having a Definite Chief Aim—a singular, focused goal that drives every action you take. This principle mirrors Napoleon Hill’s teachings in The Law of Success, where Hill describes how a clear, focused goal acts as a guiding light for all of your efforts. With a Definite Chief Aim, your big dreams transform into a clear direction, making it easier to break down your goals into actionable steps.
Dream-building is all about creating a structured, step-by-step process that turns your large vision into something practical. The key is knowing exactly what you want and taking consistent, daily action toward that goal. The clarity that comes from focusing on your Definite Chief Aim will help you avoid the overwhelm that often comes with big dreams.
By creating a clear goal and focusing on actionable steps, you move closer to your dream one step at a time, without getting lost in the details.
Dreaming Forward
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to dreaming. What works for one person might not work for another, and that’s okay. The most important thing is that you connect with your desires, whether through visualization, scripting, dreamboarding, or dream building. Each of these methods offers a unique way to tap into your subconscious desires and bring your dreams to life.
In my Dream Life & Legacy Academy, I’ve combined these methods into a structured, supportive approach to Dreamboarding that incorporates NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), Feng Shui, guided visualizations, and more. The Art of Dreamboarding method, which integrates the teachings of visualization, dream building, goal setting, and Definite Chief Aims, has been transformative for myself and my clients.
